How to build a nurse shift schedule
What 3-shift wards usually balance in a monthly roster, and how N-Ship shortens that work.
Shift labels and rules shown here (D·E·N, OFF, ACT, and similar) follow common Korean hospital 3-shift ward practice.
What you have to balance first
A roster is not just filling dates. You need daily D·E·N coverage, each nurse’s OFF/leave, team and role mix (CN·RN·ACT, etc.), and personal requests at the same time.
In spreadsheets, fixing one constraint often breaks another day.
Basic flow in N-Ship
- Register nurses, teams, and roles.
- Set day-of-week work/exclude requests, overlap/handover limits, and generation settings.
- Choose year/month and auto-generate the schedule.
- Edit only the cells you need in the calendar, then export Excel or images.
You can still edit after auto-generation
The engine applies constraints to propose a month, but ward realities may require changes. N-Ship assumes cell-level edits and stats review after generation.
